Our story began in 1988 with the idea of an unemployed young man, Johannes Gutmann, in a poor area of the Austrian Waldviertel. In 1992, he met Tomáš Mitáček and together they started the South Moravian chapter, which we write today under the guidance of Josef Dvořáček. The rest is the story of the company, people and events that made SONNENTOR a successful business.
As a student, I was able to spend many months on internships in German-speaking countries. In many places there you see a clear difference in the landscape, where it is managed organically for a long time. There is no other way and it is clear that organic farming is the only possible alternative to today's unsustainable large-scale monoculture that is destroying our landscape.
We think a lot about the impact of our business. We built the production hall as a brownfield on the site of an old dilapidated cowshed, which no one needed anymore. When we thought about how much plastic non-degradable packaging would be left after consuming our products almost 10 years ago, we started trying alternative compostable materials. It was not an easy or cheap way, but we inspired a lot of other people and business people.
